Suzaki, Shimoda City is a small coastal area, approximately 3km×2.5km, which is located in the southern part of Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The natural environment of this area is preserved in good conditions; the vegetation is characterized by dense natural forests of evergreen broad-leaved trees and littoral plant communities along the sea shore. Vascular plant flora of Suzaki has been investigated since 2001 from two view points. One is chronological view point; the present flora is compared with that in 1980, when a book on the flora of Suzaki was published by the Biological Laboratory, Imperial Household, Tokyo. Another is taxonomy of littoral type taxa. Present study revealed that number of taxa distributed in Suzaki have increased and new littoral taxa are recognized. In the present study, 673 species, 13 subspecies, 106 varieties, and 26 formas (770 taxa) are included in 426 genera in 127 families of vascular plants. Those in 1980 are 577 species, 8 subspecies, 69 varieties and 20 formas (614 taxa) included in 375 genera in 116 families. During the course of the study, one species, 14 varieties, 13 formas, 3 hybrids were described as new taxa as well as 7 new combination of scientific names. Among these taxa, 18 are littoral type.
