About User Categories
CiNii Articles users are divided into four major user categories based on their institutional affiliation and whether or not they have an ID.
Available services and the price structure differ for each user category. Please review the differences between each category and select the one that best suits you.

Note 1: If you're logging in with an "Individual ID" instead of "Site License Individual ID" , usage fees will be charged even if you are using a computer terminal at an institution with a contract.
Note 2: Some academic society members are eligible for special rates We recommend that you register the academic society you belong to in your user information.
1. Members of institutions with fixed-price contracts
- If the institution you belong to utilizes the Institutional Fixed-Price Service, you can access any contents authorized as "Subscription" without an ID from a computer terminal inside your institution.
- Paid content can be viewed without an ID by using the Pay Per View service.
2. Members of institutions with fixed-price contracts who apply for a Site License Individual ID
- Members of institutions with fixed-price contracts may apply for a Site License Individual ID free of charge.
With the ID, users can access the same services as those available within their institutions from their homes or other locations. In addition, paid content can be viewed at lower rates than with Pay Per View.
3. Users applying for an Individual ID regardless of institutional affiliation
- 窶｢ Both members and non-members of institutions with fixed-price contracts may apply for an Individual ID. An annual registration fee of 2,100 yen applies. With an Individual ID, paid content can be viewed at lower rates than with Pay Per View.
4. Users not affiliated with institutions with fixed-price contracts who do not apply for an ID
- Paid content can be viewed without an ID by using the Pay Per View service.
- Pay Per View service fees must be paid by credit card at the time of use.
- Pay Per View rates are higher than those charged to users with IDs. If you plan to access a large quantity of paid content, it is recommended that you obtain an Individual ID.
Institutions with fixed-price contracts
The fixed-priced service is available to such institutions as universities, libraries, and private corporations, with registration accepted on an institutional basis. For an annual fee based on the number of full-time faculty members or researchers (excluding students, graduate students, and administrative staff), all CiNii functions as well as the full text of academic society journals incorporated in the NII-ELS that are designated fixed-price authorized are accessible.
