A part of the screen was improved to be able to use with no difficulty with Internet Explorer 7.
In addition, in "Advanced Search", "Search" is now available with an Enter/Return key after type in the word or phrase.
Renewal of Site License Individual ID
“Site License Individual ID” which is available for members belonging to an institution with an Institutional Fixed-Price Service contract has become of being able to be kept even after the end of the fiscal year.
If you wish to continue using CiNii for the next fiscal year, please renew your ID. You may renew from April 1, 2007 to May 31, 2007, and only from the network of an institution under the fixed-price contract.
※ Please access on a terminal at the institution you belong to.
If you access from out of the network of the institution you belong to, the contract cannot be renewed.
Members belonging to an institution with an Institutional Fixed-Price Service contract can obtain a CiNii user ID free of charge.
To make sure that the institution that you belong to (at the time of application) renews the fixed-price contract for the next fiscal year and the user continue the affiliation with the institution from which he or she applied, please renew in every fiscal year.

In applying the renewal of Individual ID and the institution, e-mail will be sent automatically when the process of applying is completed.

Display the usage history and the details after the end of the use
For 6 months after the end of the use, the usage history and details can be viewed.
Administrator also can view for 6 months after the end of the use.
Expanding of use statistics for institutions
For the administrator of the institution with the fixed-price contract, COUNTER conformity statistics (※ note 1) are offered in addition to conventional "reference use aspects".
The following statistics have been added.- COUNTER Journal Report 1 (R2) - The number of the full text use per magazine
- COUNTER Journal Report 3 (R2) - The number of the use per magazine（With breakdown of page types）
- COUNTER Database Report 1 (R2) - The number of the searches per database
- COUNTER Database Report 3 (R2) - The number of the searches per service
- The number of the use in each offer condition per magazine（The statistic is not COUNTER-compliant）
※ The statistics of 2006 or later have been available.
※ These statistics can be viewed at the browser, and also can be used in Excel files after downloading the date.
Please log in Administrator login page with Administrator ID, and use it.
※ Administrator ID is different from Individual ID of CiNii.
※ Administrator ID and Password were sent to a principal contacts in writing.
※※ Note 1 COUNTER-COUNTER (Counting Online Usage of NeTworked Electronic Resources) is the international standard of use statistics such as database or e-journals.

Note 1: The administrator ID and password are stated in the notification that was sent to the contact person when the service started.

2. Click "Renewal application".
3. Read the "Usage Regulations" and click "I Agree".
4. Update your institutional data and click "Next". (Your data for 2006 will be saved separately.)
5. Confirm your renewed data and click "Next".
6. The contract renewal is complete. Please make a record of the displayed application number for any future inquiries.
[Site License Individual ID expiration]
Site License Individual IDs expire at the end of each fiscal year (March 31). If a user wishes to continue using their Site License Individual ID through the next fiscal year, they should renew their ID between April 1 and May 31, 2007. The Site License Individual ID is renewable only from a computer within the institution after April 1.
[System modification in 2006]
In 2006, CiNii functions have been expanded as follows in order to offer better services (some will be launched in 2007).
1. The CiNii website has a new design that enables users to navigate faster and easier.
- In the detailed display pages, users can search by authors' names or keywords, or see the table of contents by clicking links.
- Full text documents can be displayed with just a click.
- New URL enables an easy link to certain article information.
2. Limiting searches to results containing the full text of a document is now possible.
3. Links to link resolvers or library OPACs, and links from link resolvers (OpenURL format) are now available.
4. Exporting function for bibliographic management software (EndNote, RefWorks, etc.) has been added.
5. Mutual links between the Japana Centra Revuo Medicina (Ichushi) are now available.
6. Detailed information pages including abstracts are available for everyone.
7. We are planning to expand the statistics available for institutions with the fixed-price contact.
8. We are planning to add full text document links to NII-REO (NII Repository of Electronic Journals and Online Publications) and CrossRef member publishers.

CiNii Provides Link Function to Other Systems (February 5, 2007)
As of January 15, 2007, CiNii has made the following upgrades that make linking to other websites and systems (library OPACs, Link Resolvers, etc.) easier.
Article URL is now permanent (Permalink)
The URL format has been changed in order to make linking to certain article information easier.
Moreover, if a record is identified with another record and its NII article ID (NAID) has changed, a dead link will no longer be created; instead a new integrated record will be automatically displayed.

Link setting for institutions
Institutions with fixed-price contracts are able to set links between CiNii and their OPAC, or systems such as Link Resolvers (see NOTE 2) by using OpenURL.
If an institution has set links, users who have logged in with a Site License Individual ID or have accessed CiNii from their institution will see icons to the links in the search results page and detailed article information page. By clicking the icon, information on full text documents that are available in the institution and library holdings will be displayed.
