CiNii Books and Full Text Search are now available (Nov 9, 2011)

We are pleased to announce that CiNii was renewed.
Following two new functions are now available.

  1. "CiNii Books" was launched

    CiNii Books is a service that enables searching of information on books and journals that are held in university libraries in Japan. It is possible to search for about 10 million titles held in 1200 university libraries (totaled over 100 million books), and about 1.5 million authors of these books that has been accumulated through the online cataloging system (NACSIS-CAT) which NII provides.
    The Existing article search service CiNii was renamed "CiNii Articles", and the part of design has been renewed.

    Features of CiNii Books
    • CiNii Books contains wide variety of books - recent books, classics, foreign books, CD, DVD,etc.
    • Users can check the list of libraries in Japan holding the books or journals they are searching for. It is possible to retrieve it by limiting specific areas and libraries.
    • Directly linking to the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) page of university libraries from book or journal page enables users to search for the details such as whether it is available now.
    • If the full text is provided by CiNii Articles, users can follow the link to the full text documents.
    • Offering Web APIs（Application Program Interface）are available from other systems and web services.

Two new functions are available. (May 23, 2011)

Following two new functions are available now.

  1. Author page redirect function.

    We have been made inconvenience that the original Author Details Page (ex. http://ci.nii.ac.jp/nrid/1000080143551 ) was deleted when the author was identified to another, so you couldn't access.
    To resolve this access error, we set this redirect function. (Article details page has already this redirect function.)
    As CiNii has feedback system, when you find failure information you can feedback immediately on our website.
    We have been given so many feedbacks mainly about author identification, so we really appreciate your corporation.

  2. Adds and changes of data items.

    1. Change of NDL Japanese Periodicals Index ID.
      CiNii incorporated data from Japanese Periodicals Index of National Diet Library. We had been displayed "Japanese Periodicals Index ID" (9 or 10 digits) for those data's ID on the Article Details Page. But we have changed it to "Article ID" ("NDL Article ID" in CiNii, 7 or 8 digits) that is more permanent.

For Site License Individual ID users who have difficulty with renewal due to the Great East Japan Earthquake. (Apr 15, 2011)

Since all Site License Individual IDs have expired on March 31, users who wants to use it in new fiscal year should renewal from a computer within the institution after April 1.

But now some users have difficulty going to their institution or connecting the institution's network due to the Great East Japan Earthquake.
These users can renewal by sending email to us as follows.

1.2 millions of records from NDL Japanese Periodicals Index is now available. (Apr 11, 2011)

1.2 millions of records from NDL Japanese Periodicals Index's "Science and Technology" and "Natural Science" published from 1950 to 1974 which has been not incorporated, is now available in CiNii. Japanese Periodicals Index is one of the databases incorporated. It's made by National Diet Library. The code at the CiNii window is "NDL".
This will enable you to search the same range as NDL-OPAC (by National Diet Library) via CiNii.

CiNii Renewal of Institutional Fixed-price Service for 2011. (Mar 25, 2011)

We had sent email on March 25 about the renewal to Institutional users who had not renewal yet.
The following is the information not included in the first email to Institutional users for renewal.

As you may already know, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) had scheduled to conduct the rolling blackout from March 14 to help prevent an unexpected large scale power outage after the earthquake.
Due to this rolling black out, CiNii are available only for a short time each day.
This situation will continue for a while.

We would appreciate if you could find a time and do the renewal procedure while CiNii are available.

If you see a difficulty to renewal but wish to continue the contract, please let us know about it by E-mail with your intitution's information of next fiscal year by March 29, Tue (JST). We will modify the information and do renewal for you.

If you do NOT take the following renewal procedure by March 31, noon (JST), 2011, or we have no contact from you, your contract for fiscal year 2010 will be automatically terminated in April.

  5. Confirm your renewal data and click "Next".
  6. The contract renewal has been completed. Please save your application number displayed for any inquiries.

* The renewal period is limited only during the above dates.

A Site License Individual ID is renewable only from a computer within the institution after April 1.
We will inform about the renewal of Site License Individual ID for the users by E-mail later.
* To check whether or not your institution has renewed its contract, please seeFY 2011 renewal status list of Institutions with Fixed-Price Contracts.
