17世紀フランスの多くの礼儀作法書には、当時のモードと不可分の服飾規範が記されており、同時代の人びとの完成と振舞いの特性を知るための格好の資料となっている。本論はこれらの服飾規範の全体像とその意味を明らかにするものである。宮廷をモデルとする服飾規範は、身体表象による社会の階層化に貢献していた。習俗を洗練・教化しながら、一方で差異化を促進することが、絶対王政生成期における服飾規範の特色である。
