Abstract
In order to investigate the influence of hydrogen-ion concentration exponent on strength-deformation characteristics of cohesive soils, unconfined compression tests have been performed on natural soils with different hydrogen-ion concentration exponent. In addition, we conducted unconfined compression tests on natural soils acidified by air drying. As a result, it was found that unconfined compressive strength, axial strain at failure and deformation modulus depend on hydrogen-ion concentration exponent, consolidation time and acidification process.<br>Hydrogen-ion concentration exponent and acidification process, therefore, are one of the most important factors in considering mechanical properties of soils.
