We examined the possibility of FeI<SUB>2</SUB> intercalation into Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Sr<SUB>2</SUB>CaCu<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>y</SUB> polycrystalline superconductor. It was found that FeI<SUB>2</SUB> was not intercalated in Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Sr<SUB>2</SUB>CaCu<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>y</SUB>, but I<SUB>x</SUB>Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Sr<SUB>2</SUB>CaCu<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>y</SUB> and Fe<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> were produced by vapor phase reaction of Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Sr<SUB>2</SUB>CaCu<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>y</SUB> and FeI<SUB>2</SUB>. Separation of diffraction lines (200), (020) for I<SUB>x</SUB>Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Sr<SUB>2</SUB>CaCu<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>y</SUB> suggest that the oxygen of Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Sr<SUB>2</SUB>CaCu<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>y</SUB> reacted with Fe of FeI<SUB>2</SUB>. Lattice constance c for I<SUB>x</SUB>Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Sr<SUB>2</SUB>CaCu<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>y</SUB> varied from 18.3 to 18.8 with increasing x. I<SUB>x</SUB>Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Sr<SUB>2</SUB>CaCu<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>y</SUB> coexisted with Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Sr<SUB>2</SUB>CaCu<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>y</SUB> between x=0.67 and 0.90. Resistance was increased and Tc was lowered by iodine intercalation.
