Abstract
If flaws detected during in-service inspection are not detrimental to structural integrity of components, it is not necessary to evaluate flaw growth and fracture analysis, and the components can continue their operation without repair or replacement. Such flaws are judged to be allowable. The allowable flaw sizes are defined by Acceptance Standards in the ASME Code Section XI. The objective of this paper is to discuss the consistencies of Acceptance Standards and to propose a description of subsurface flaws.
