<BR>General expressions of thermal diffusion phenomena in a multi-component mixture given by Hirschfelder et al. and Chapman-Cowling were compared and authors revealed that (i) Chapman-Cowling defined a thermal diffusion factor, but Hirschfelder et al. did not the factor in the multi-component mixture, and (ii) Adopting the formalism outlined in the Hirschfelder theory, Monchick et al. introduced the thermal diffusion factor in multi-component mixture, but they did not define explicitly the thermal diffusion factor. <BR>The present study proposes a definition of thermal diffusion factor in multi-component mixture based on the Hirschfelder's theory so as to be equivalent to the definition given by Chapman-Cowling. The proposed thermal diffusion factor was verified to be equivalent to the factor introduced by Monchick et al.
