Abstract

There are various testing methods for wrinkle recovery of wool fabrics such as Multiple Pleat Test Method, IWS Method, JIS L 1059, A, B, C, D. But, we can't say they have good precision. In this paper, a new testing method for wrinkle recovery of wool fabrics is presented.
We investigated the relationship between the open angle, the moisture regain and conditioning time of the specimen, utilizing the plane weave under the moisture conditions by using saturated solution of sodium sulfate crystallization, which method popularly used in the wool industries in japan. We have confirmed that this conditioning method had bad precision, because the moisture regain of the specimen increases with passing time and arrives at near 30%. So, we propose to used the thermo-hygrostat as conditioning the specimen in order to get good precision.
Secondly, we investigated the relationship between the open angle and the humidity by the proposal specimen conditioning method, utilizing the plane weave. As a result, it has been clear that the open angle is hardly influenced by the humidity in the vicinity of 90%RH (open angle/humidity =4°/%RH).
To estimate the creaseproofing effect of creaseproof finished wool fabrics, we propose that it had better been judged from the difference value between the open angle of wool fabrics treated and untreated (control).
As a result of similarly investigating about wool fabrics differed from texture, yarn number and weight per square meter, we have confirmed that this new testing method for wrinkle recovery is effective.
