Abstract
The yaw wind effects on the vortex induced oscillations of rectangular cylinders were discussed with the results of wind tunnel tests . It was shown that the large amplitude of oscillation was maintained even under the large yaw angleas 70 degrees. Though this fact must be important to evaluate the fatigue problems of a bridge oscillation, the mechanism arising such a strong excitation force was not made clear until now. It was shown also that the so-called cosine law was applicable to the onset velocity of the model under yaw wind.
