Silicon powder was spread on the surfaces of CP Titanium plates and reacted with titanium by CO<sub>2</sub> laser irradiation, forming silicide layers 600μm or thicker on the plates. Most alloy layers consisted of Ti<sub>5</sub>Si<sub>3</sub>. The highest hardness was 10GPa, and abrasion loss was 50-60% less than that of pure titanium.
