Abstract

The effectiveness of docosyl silane (DCS) column for triacylglycerol (TG) separation in reverse phase HPLC analysis was examined from the stand points of capacity and separation factors and sample analysis. A comparison of octadecyl silane (ODS) column and the DCS column for TG standars indicated that the separation factor of DCS exceeds considerably than that of ODS to give better separation. The capacity of DCS for TG retention is weak for low molecular TG and strong for high molecular TG. The improvement of separation of TG molecular species was possible through differences in the two columns of DCS and ODS. DCS shows better separation for plant oils such as soya bean oil and more complex TG molecular species such as fish oil and milk fat compared to ODS. The DCS column was fouund more effective one for TG molecular species separation in HPLC analysis.
