Vertical samples of deposited snow in the 1993/94 winter at Murodo (2450m above sea level), Mt. Tateyama in Honshu were collected in April 1994. Deposition dates of snow layers in the samples were determined on the basis of chemical stratigraphy and a snow densification model. Some snow layers contained high concentrations of Na+ and non-sea-salt (nss) Ca2+. With an aid of the snow densification model, it was found that the profile of Na+ concentration correlated well with the temporal variation of Na+ concentration in the precipitation collected at Toyama University in the same season. Dust layers in the snow cover at Murodo showed high concentrations of nss-Ca2+, layers with high concentration of Na+ and nss-Ca2+ were also good key beds for the dating. In combination with key layers and records of lithometeors obtained at low lands, it was possible to deduce the dates of snow deposition at Murodo in the winter of 1993/94.
