Abstract

Two thelytokous parthenogenetic oribatid species, Tectocepheus velatus (MICHAEL, 1880) and Oppiella nova (OUDEMANS, 1902) were collected from a crop field (Nayoro Nature Farm) and reared for the investigation as to morphological diversity during three, eight or ten years. Intraspecific variations of T. velatus in morphological characters were recognized from the study of reared specimens and field populations as follows: Size and form of dots upon external membrane; size and depth of notogastral depression; size of humeral process; curvature of three arches of rostral margin; strength of a swelling and presence or absence of small dent of cuspis; form of sensillus; the setal number and insertion of anal-genital region; form of adanal lyrifissure. In case of O. nova, individual variations were seen in form of lamellar, humeral and epimeral region, and in setal number and insertion of anal-genital region. The two species had obviously thick seta-like posterior locking-pieces as long as anterior ones, and some individuals with hatched larva in their body cavities. The two species had never incised rostrum and adanal lyrifissures subparallel to the lateral margins of anal plate as individual variation.
