The Mott polarimeter has been used to detect the spin-polarization of electron beams. A disadvantage of the Mott polarimeter is a low sensitivity. In order to determine the optimum geometical conditions for the Mott Polarimeter, which give the highest signal contrast and maximize the electron detection efficiency, electron scattering phenomena in the target are quantitatively discussed. Three-dimensional electron trajectories in the target are calculated by Monte Carlo simulation of electron scattering based on the single scattering model. The Mott scattering cross section for spin polarized electrons is used in the simulation. The angular deflection and the spin polarization transfer of electrons for single scattering events are calculated sequentially. In the present study, the simulation is applied to the determination of the optimum incident angle of the spin polarized electron beams.
