Effect of airflow in the gap of the two planar electrodes on corona-glow discharge mode transition for a discharge generated in atmospheric air have been studied by using the Q-V Lissajous' and the Dust-Figure method. The discharge electrode consists of ITO (Indium-Tin-Oxide transparent electro-conductive coating) /Air (3 mm) /polycarbonate/Al. The discharge was generated by applying a peak-to-peak voltage of 16 kV with frequency of 60 Hz to the ITO electrode. By the airflow in the electrode gap, the discharge power increased from 0.4 W to 0.8 W. In the downstream area, corona discharge patterns observed by the Dust-Figure method became obscure. By observing the wettability of the polycarbonate sheet, it was found that the surface of the sheet was treated more effectively in the downstream area than in the upstream area. The results obtained in this experiment revealed that by the airflow the discharge in the downstream area is transferred from the corona to corona-glow mixture mode. It could be concluded that the airflow in the electrode gap is useful to accomplish an efficient treatment to a non-conductive surface without electrostatic charge up in the atmosphere.
