Abstract

This studies are to clarify the mechanism of heat of wetting on wool fibers in relation to thier molecular structure and finaly to develope new functional fibers generating heat of wetting by means of molecular designing.<BR>At first thermal analysis on wool fibers with an improved differential calorimeter was conducted and then the exothermic value of heat of wetting on various fibers was measured. In the obtained results it was confirmed that the exothermic phenomenon of adsorbed moisture on wool fibers are correlated with three hydrophilic functional groups, especially amino group which existed in protein of wool fiber.
