Abstract

Steel belt conveyor rollers utilized for carriage coke and coal are poor in durability due to the lack of corrosion and abrasion resistance. Use of aluminum alloys matrix composites for the belt conveyor rollers enhance these properties. A cast composite belt conveyor roller with alumina short fibers and silicon carbide particles in the aluminum die casting alloy. ADC12 has been developed by using the laminar flow casting technique. The process consists of filling the aluminum alloy into a hybrid preform made using ceramics powder and ceramics short fibers by die casting. The weight reduction of a piece of roller for utilization of the aluminum alloy matrix composite is approximately more than 2.8kg. The cast reinforced aluminum alloy matrix composite has more superior abrasion and corrosion resistance than cast iron, and the cast reinforced aluminum alloy composite belt conveyor roller has shown excellent performance.
