ADI材加工用(Ti, Al)NコーテッドcBN工具の開発 Development of (Ti, Al) N Coated cBN Tool for ADI Machining
In the finishing operation of austempered ductile cast iron (ADI) with cBN tool, there exists an optimum cutting condition in which the wear rate of the tool is minimized, The average temperature of the tool tip in this condition was around 1100K, Further improvement of the tool life in this cutting condition, the effects of the failure strength of c-BN grain and (Ti, Al) N-coatings deposited above cBN tool on tool life were investigated. Flank wear of the tool was not effected by the crushing strength of c-BN grain. According to the observations of cBN tool after cutting, it was confirmed that the wear development of c-BN grains was relatively faster than that of the binding phase at the cutting edge. On the other hand, (Ti, Al) N-coated cBN tool remarkably improved wear resistance as compared to the non-coated tool. The reduction in the wear rate is caused by (Ti, Al) N-coated film on the lower wear land as a levee. It was clarfied that (Ti, Al) N-coated tool was effective for reducing the wear and in preventing the abrasion of c-BN grains.
