The effects of molybdenum, tungsten and silicon contents on the formation of M2C and M6C eutectic carbides in multi-component white cast iron were investigated. In substitution of M2C carbide, M6C carbide in the fish-bone configuration precipitates in cast irons depending on chemical composition, and it is derived that an increase in both the W/Mo value and silicon content promotes the transition of carbide type from M2C to M6C. It is also found that when M6C carbide precipitates in a large scale, M7C3 carbide always follows to crystallize even at low carbon content like about 2 mass % in the iron. With respect to the precipitation sequence of eutectic carbides in the cast iron containing MC, M7C3 and M6C carbides, it is proved to take the order of MC, M6C and M7C3.
