  The surface hardening technology based on electron beam has extended the possibilities for improving the wear and heat resistance of aluminum alloy. In this paper, surface hardened aluminum alloy containing 20 to 75 mass % copper and 0 to 13 mass % silicon by fusing aluminum silicon alloy and a copper wire using electron beam was formed for studying the influence of copper and silicon contents on weld crack in surface hardened aluminum silicon alloy using electron beam welding after welding or heat treatment (water quenching). It is found that the crack easily occurs with increasing copper and silicon contents in surface hardened aluminum alloy through the increase of intermetallic compound, CuAl<sub>2</sub>, and the primary silicon.
