Abstract

Electrochemical behavior of trivalent vanadium species was investigated in a Lewis basic 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (EMIC)-aluminum trichloride (AlCl3) molten salt at room temperature. The reduction of V(III) was observed around −1.2 V vs. Al(III)/Al in the cyclic voltammogram on platinum electrode. The reduction process of V(III) seems electrochemically irreversible as observed in aqueous solution.
