Abstract
The synthesis, characterization and X-ray crystallographic structure determination are described for a “phosphaalkene” formally derived from 1,3,4,5-tetramethylimidazol-2-ylidene and phenylphosphinidene. This carbene•phosphinidene adduct has a central P-C bond length of 179.4 pm and a dihedral twist of 46° which indicates a very weak C-P pπ-pπ interaction. The valence angle at phosphorus in 102.3°.
