抄録

A trisubstituted poly(phenylene-vinylene) (M<SUB>n</SUB> = 7700) was obtained in 67% yield by the coupling polymerization of <I>p</I>-bromophenylallene (<B>1a</B>) with sodium diethyl methylmalonate (<B>2</B>) at 80°C for 6h. Owing to the diethyl methylmalonate moieties in the side chain, the polymer is remarkably soluble in various organic solvents. From <I>m</I>-bromophenylallene (<B>1b</B>), a polymer was also obtained in high yield.
