抄録

A binuclear samarium complex of azobenzene, [SmI(thf)<SUB>3</SUB>(<I>μ</I>-<I>η</I><SUP>2</SUP>:<I>η</I><SUP>2</SUP>-<I>trans</I>-PhNNPh)<SUB>2</SUB>SmI(thf)<SUB>3</SUB>], prepared by treating metallic samarium with azobenzene in the presence of iodine was characterized crystallographically. Reaction of metallic ytterbium with benzo[<I>c</I>]cinnoline, a <I>cis</I>-azo compound, gave Yb(bc)<SUB>3</SUB>(thf)<SUB>2</SUB> (bc = benzo[<I>c</I>]cinnoline) that is monomeric and adopts distorted dodecahedral geometry, determined by X-ray analysis.
