The novel catalysts of native and NiO-loaded K<SUB>3</SUB>Ta<SUB>3</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>13</SUB> with pillared structure consisting of three linear TaO<SUB>6</SUB> chains showed luminescence and high photocatalytic activities for the decomposition of distilled water into H<SUB>2</SUB> and O<SUB>2</SUB> in stoichiometric amounts under UV irradiation.
