抄録

Pitch fluoride is a new fluorine carbon compound which has superior water repellency with a contact angle larger than 145°. Adopting high softening point pitch as a raw material, we measured the reaction rate of direct fluorination of pitch under a fixed partial pressure of fluorine gas by using a thermobalance, which was designed with special care for the safe treatment of fluorine gas, and we investigated the properties of synthesized fluorine carbon by 19F-NMR, IR, and elemental analysis. These analyses showed that at the same reaction temperature, synthesized pitch fluoride had almost the same properties irrespective of fluorine gas pressure, and that the ring opening reaction of carbon-carbon bonds took place when the reaction temperature exceeded 90°C. The fluorination rate was approximately in proportion to the 0.5 power of the fraction of unreacted carbon and the concentration of fluorine gas, and the rate constant was expressed by an Arrhenius type equation with extraordinarily small activation energy.
