The authors proposed a new algorithm for particle tracking, called the Spring Model technique. The algorithm can be applied to flow fields which exhibit characteristics such as rotation, shear and expansion. However, when the particle displacement between two images are too large, the particle could not tracked correctly because of the large distortion.<BR>In this study, to improve the applicability of the Spring Model technique, the information of the several serial images were analyzed. With using the temporal information, the miss matching could be eliminated, resulting in the high accurate tracking even in the large displacement. The effectiveness of the improved Spring Model technique was demonstrated using the actual images of the free surface turbulence.
