Abstract
A particle mask is of a typical brightness pattern of a particle image, which is called a template in pattern matching. The proposed particle mask correlation method calculates a cross-correlation coefficient between the particle mask and a particle image plane. The following are evaluated:<BR>(1) the dependence of the cross-correlation coefficient on the shape of a particle image, and<BR>(2) the separation of a particle image from a closely-located lineament.
