The paper describes experimental results on the fluid flow and heat transfer of natural convection from heat source under a horizontal plate. The ranges of Rayleigh numbers and length of horizontal plate are 8×10<SUP>3</SUP> <Ra<9×10<SUP>4</SUP> and 30mm<L<150mm. Temperature and flow fields are visualized by the liquid crystal suspension method. The average heat transfer coefficients are also measured. The results show that those values depend on the length of the horizontal plate.
