Role of High Pressure in Identifying Alloying Elements for Modifying Material Properties
In this paper, the results of our high pressure x-ray diffraction studies on the high temperature structural intermetallic Ti<SUB>3</SUB>Al (with a hexagonal DO<SUB>19</SUB> structure at NTP) have been presented. The motivation of this work is to identify the alloying elements for stabilizing the cubic L1<SUB>2</SUB> structure, which is expected to have better ductility and strength. Our present investigation leads to two important results that may have significant bearing in the search for the cubic Ti<SUB>3</SUB>Al.
