Kinetics of Amorphous-to-Amorphous Transformations in SiO_2 and GeO_2 Glasses under High Pressure
The kinetics of amorphous-amorphous transformation in GeO<SUB>2</SUB> glass and initial stage of densification in SiO<SUB>2</SUB> have been studied up to 9 GPa by direct volumetric measurements using the resistivity strain-gauge technique. A number of anomalous features, such as the logarithmic law of densification at a fixed pressure and the overlap of pressure ranges of the direct and reverse coordination changes in the GeO<SUB>2</SUB> network (negative hysteresis), were found to distinguish the observed transformation kinetics from that of ordinary first order transitions.
