Abstract
Pressure is a basic tool to explore the phase diagram of heavy fermions and other systems which are close to a quantum critical point. A characteristic feature of these systems is the existence of a trajectory in this phase diagram, which can be tuned by pressure and along which one observes non-Fermi liquid behavior. We present a scaling theory of quantum critical phenomena which describes the physical behavior in the proximity of a zero temperature fixed point particularly of heavy fermions and systems close to a metal-insulator transitions.
