Abstract

Effects of pressure on the Curie temperature and the magnetization of itinerant-electron ferromagnetic compounds Lu (Co1-xGax) 2 have been investigated in the concentration range from x = 0. 10 to 0. 20. All of the compounds show large negative values of ∂Tc/∂P and ∂Ms/∂P. An anomalously large negative ∂Tc/∂P was observed around x = 0. 10, being the critical concentration of the onset of ferromagnetism. This phenomenon can be explained qualitatively by taking spin fluctuations into account. The spontaneous magnetization begins to decrease drastically above a certain pressure, suggesting the onset of the metamagnetic transition from the ferromagnetic to paramagnrtic state.
