Investigations of Sm_2Fe_<17> under High Pressures of Gaseous Phases.

Samples of the Sm<SUB>2</SUB>Fe<SUB>17</SUB> alloy were exposed to hydrogen or nitrogen gas compressed to pressures between 1. 0 and 1. 5 GPa. Sample hydrogenated at 100<SUP>0</SUP>C and 1. 12 GPa (H<SUB>2</SUB>) pulverized completely but the crystalline structure did not differ from that obtained during hydrogenation at 1 MPa where pulverization does not occur. Nitriding reaction carried out at 350<SUP>0</SUP>C and 1. 0 GPa resulted in transition into nitride Sm<SUB>2</SUB>Fe<SUB>17</SUB>N<SUB>3</SUB>. The disproportionation of sample has occurred under high nitrogen pressure when heated at 600<SUP>0</SUP>C.
