Magnetovolume Phenomena in Fe-rich R-Fe Intermetallics

Results of pressure measurements of thermal expansion, compressibility, magnetization and Curie temperature of rare-earth and transition metals intermetallics are presented. A dependence of compressibility in ferro- (ferri-) magnetic state of the intermetallics on T<SUB>C</SUB>, K<SUB>f</SUB>∼T<SUB>C</SUB><SUP>-1</SUP>, has been discovered. The pronounced Invar-like behaviour of these materials is described and discussed within thermodynamic relations and itinerant d-electron concepts.
