Raman Spectra of Solid Bromine under Pressure of up to 80 GPa

The Raman scattering experiments for solid bromine were carried out under pressure of up to 80 GPa, at which pressure solid bromine undergoes the molecular dissociation. The frequency-pressure dependences for the vibrational A<SUB>g</SUB> and B<SUB>3g</SUB> modes and the librational A<SUB>g</SUB> and B<SUB>3g</SUB> modes were obtained. Their frequencies increased with an increase in pressure, in contrast to the softening of the vibrational B<SUB>3g</SUB> mode and the librational A<SUB>g</SUB> mode in the case of solid iodine.
