Activity and Structural Stability of Methanol Dehydrogenase from Methylophaga marina at High Pressure

Methanol dehydrogenase is unfolded by hydrostatic pressure in a single transition above 900 MPa. In 6 M urea two transitions occur, one at 450 MPa leading to a molten globule like intermediate and one at 650 MPa resulting in unfolding. The strong temperature dependence of ΔV of the electron transfer reaction provides additional support for a temperature induced conformational change in cytochrome C<SUB>L</SUB>.
