Abstract

Aluminum borate (9Al2O3·2B2O3) whiskers were coated with uniform films of chromium-containing deposits by using a hydrothermal technique in which a mixture of CrCl3, Na2C4H4O6, NaPH2O2 and H3BO3 is used as the coating solution. The morphology and characteristics of hydrothermal deposits were affected by composition of coating solution, temperature and reaction time. After 2-8 hours of heating at 800-850°C in air, smooth films composed mainly of hexagonal Cr2O3 were formed on whisker surface and the thickness was 0. 01-0. 02 μm.
