低品位石炭の経済的な脱硫プロセスを構築するために, 培地循環式充填層型反応器を用いる鉄酸化細菌による脱硫過程を解析した.石炭に含まれる硫黄分のモデル物質として黄鉄鉱を用い, 脱硫過程における鉄酸化細菌の黄鉄鉱への吸着とその浮遊細菌との関係および反応生成物のFe<SUP>3+</SUP>とSO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>2-</SUP>の阻害作用について検討した.これらの結果をもとに吸着細菌と浮遊細菌の増殖特性および生成物阻害の挙動を動力学的に解析して, 脱硫過程のシミュレーションを行った.
Desulfurization should be low-cost process for utilization of low grade coal. <I>Thiobacillus ferrooxidans</I> has been the most widely studied bacteria for removal of pyrite form sulfur in coal. In this research, desulfurization from pyrite by <I>T. ferrooxidans</I> in a packed-bed medium-recirculating bioreactor was examined for developing an on-site desulfurization process. Concentrations of SO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>2-</SUP> and Fe<SUP>3+</SUP> eluted from the pyrite in the bioreactor increased with time, however, they became constant after a certain culture time. It is indicated that the higher concentrations of eluted products non-competitively inhibited desulfurization by bacteria. Free bacteria were mainly caused by the growth of adsorbed bacteria. A kinetic model consisting of bacterial growth and product inhibitions of respective Fe<SUP>3+</SUP> and SO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>2-</SUP> in the packed-bed medium-recirculating bioreactor is proposed.
