Abstract

For the purpose of an application as heat-storage materials, a water-absorbent polymer was encapsulated with polystyrene (PS) by the drying-in-liquid method. Many tiny pores were observed in the wall of the capsules prepared. It was found that the mechanical strength of the capsules decreased with PS concentration and was dependent on the thickness of the wall and the capsule diameter. The capsules were also found to show supercooling phenomenon that is a the heat-storage characteristic.
