Production of wheat-barley disomic addition lines possessing an Aegilops cylindrica gametocidal chromosome

Chromosome breaks occur in a hexaploid wheat (<i>Triticum aestivum</i>), variety Chinese Spring carrying a single gametocidal chromosome, 2C, from <i>Aegilops cylindrica</i>. In an attempt to induce breakage in barley chromosomes, we introduced the 2C chromosome into six wheat-barley addition lines. Plants disomic for each of the barley chromosomes and monosomic for 2C were identified using C-banding and meiotic analysis. Chromosomal breakage was expected to occur in the progeny of these lines.<br>
