抄録

This paper presents an experimental study on the group effect for model piles in sand subjected to the lateral load. Piles are arranged in ·a line parallel to or perpendicular to the direction of the load. The lateral load and the lateral displacement of the pile head are measured in many combinations of the pile space and number of piles. The conclusions from this basic study are as follows. A row of piles parallel to load : The load sharing ratio is higher at the front pile and decreases at the rearer piles. The sharing ratio of each pile becomes the average value of total piles if the number of piles increases.A row of piles perpendicular to load :1) The difference of the load sharing ratio between each pile is not remarkable except the case for a few piles and for a small pile space.2) The group effect is lower for a smaller pile space, but if the pile space is smaller than 4~5 times pile diameter, the effect becomes higher and a type of wall resistance is expected for the smaller pile space than 2 times pile diameter.
