Abstract
The effect of a corona initiated from a needle electrode, which is located near a sphere electrode keeping apart from a plane electrode, on the discharge voltage of the sphere-plane gap under pulse voltages in SF6 gas was investigated . The condition of corona initiation and development depended on the resistance which was connected to the high voltage. With increase in the resistance, the discharge voltage increased considerably and reached a maximum at about 5 M Ω for a pulse rise time of 0.5 µ s.
