Reactions of the dinuclear hydrogensulfido-bridged complexes [Cp<SUP>*</SUP>MCl(μ-SH)<SUB>2</SUB>MClCp<SUP>*</SUP>] (M = Rh, Ir) with CuCl<SUB>2</SUB>·2H<SUB>2</SUB>O lead to formation of Rh<SUB>4</SUB>S<SUB>7</SUB> and Ir<SUB>3</SUB>CuS<SUB>6</SUB> clusters [(Cp<SUP>*</SUP>Rh)<SUB>4</SUB>(μ<SUB>3</SUB>-S<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>(μ<SUB>4</SUB>-S<SUB>3</SUB>)][CuCl<SUB>2</SUB>]<SUB>2</SUB> and [(Cp<SUP>*</SUP>Ir)<SUB>3</SUB>(μ<SUB>3</SUB>-S<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>(CuCl<SUB>2</SUB>)][CuCl<SUB>2</SUB>] through the oxidative S–S bond formation, the former of which contains a trisulfido ligand of the unprecedented μ<SUB>4</SUB>-η<SUP>2</SUP>:η<SUP>1</SUP>:η<SUP>1</SUP>:η<SUP>1</SUP> coordination mode.
