抄録

Juvenile abalones of Nordotis gigantea and the artificial hybrid abalone N. gigantea_??_×N. discus_??_ were reared under the same conditions in cages set in a rearing tank. Their growth and survival rates were compared over a 341 day period at Kamitsushima-cho Sea Farming Center, Nagasaki Prefecture. From the end of April to the end of September, the growth rate of N. gigantea was better than that of the hybrid abalone. From the end of October to end of the experimental period, the growth rate of the hybrid was better than that of N. gigantea. The survival rate of N. gigantea was higher than that of the hybrid abalone throughout the experiment. The seasonal growth pattern and survival rate of the hybrid abalone resembled that of N. discus. However, the external morphology of the hybrid juvenile abalone resembled that of N. gigantea.
