The variation in mechanical properties and density of bone by joint immobilization was examined in 46 rat's knee joint. The mechanical property was determined with a developed viscoelastic spectrometer, and the bone mineral content was measured by Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry. The age of rats are under 1 through 10 weeks. During the experiments, the angle of the left knee joint is fixed at 150 degrees -that is named as the experimental group. On the other hand, the right knee joint of individual rat is not mechanically constrained-a control group.<BR>The experimental results showed that both the dynamic stiffness and phase lag decreased with the rat age. In addition, the bone mineral density of the experimental group were significantly lower than that of the control gruop.
