This study was conducted to determine the effects of vaginal deliveries on anorectal function in healthy females. Examination was done by questionnaire concerning the anal symptoms and defecation conditions at 3 points (during the pregnancy, 3 months after delivery, and the time of questionnare). In this study 599 females had vaginal delivery 1 to 4 (mean : 1.8) time before this study and 102 females underwent Caesarean section. As a result, the use of forceps and vacuum, a heavier baby, and primiparous female over 35 years old were risk factors of defecation disorders and anal symptoms. It was suggested that haemorrhoid and faecal incontinence may occur and worsen after vaginal delivery and continue for a long time.
