Between January and August 1992, a 31-year-old woman had three episodes of recurrent right pneumothorax related to the onset of menstruation. She was treated with an ovulationsuppressing drug from September 1992 to March 1993, and there was no episode of pneumothorax during that period. However, on December 1993, she had a fourth episode of right pneumothorax related to menstruation.<BR>Right thoracotomy revealed a pinhole perforation in the middle lobe. Partial resection of the lung including the pinhole perforation was performed. Microscopic examination of the specimen showed endometrial stroma in the pleura. The pathological findings in this case suggested that the cause of catamenial pneumothorax was intrathoracic implantation of endometrium.
